Haryana School Education Department has decided to organise competitions on financial literacy at block, district and state level to raise awareness among the children.

Stating this here today, School Education Director Vijayendra Kumar said, "Financial literacy is the ability to understand finance. More specifically, it refers to the set of skills and knowledge that allows an individual to make informed and effective decisions through their understanding of finances.

Raising interest in personal finance is now a focus of state-run programs in countries including Australia, Japan, the United States, India and UK.

"The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) started an inter-governmental project in 2003 with the objective of providing ways to improve financial education and literacy standards through the development of common financial literacy principles. In March 2008, the OECD launched the International Gateway for Financial Education, which serves as a clearing house for financial education programs, information and research worldwide. In the UK, the alternative term 'financial capability' is used by the state and its agencies: the Financial Services Authority (FSA) in the UK started a national strategy on financial capability in 2003. The US Government also established its Financial Literacy and Education Commission in 2003", he added.

He said that in July 2010, the United States Congress passed the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act (Dodd-Frank Act), which created the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). The CFPB had been tasked, among other mandates, with promoting financial education through its Consumer Engagement and Education group.

In 2010, the Reserve Bank of India initiated a project on Financial Literacy to disseminate information regarding the Central bank and general banking concepts to various target groups including school children, women, rural and urban poor, defence personnel and senior citizens, he said, adding that the project was designed in two modules - one on role and functions of RBI and the other on banking concepts. In a bid to improve the quality of training in government Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), the Haryana Government has decided to upgrade 47 of them under Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode in 2011-12.

While stating this here on Sunday, an official spokesperson of the Industrial Training Department said industrialists, willing to adopt government ITIs and contribute in the process of upgradation of skills, would be included in the management of the institutes, which were now being constituted as independent societies.

"The industrialists willing to adopt the ITIs should be within the district or in a radius of 100 km in the adjoining district. The industry must be a manufacturing unit or service sector unit or infrastructure company or information technology company with a minimum annual turnover of Rs 10
crore," he said.

The industry should have been operational for at least five years and should have at least 25 employees. The industrialists would have to give an undertaking that they would appoint Chairman, Managing Director or Director of the company or head of the local unit of the company as the chairman of Institutional Management Committee of the adopted government ITI, the official said.

The applications along with supporting documents should reach the Director, Industrial Training Department within 15 days, he added.

In the normal range for secondary examination results of male is 25.04 percent.While the percentage of women was 46.93. OBC 53.97 per cent of men in getting results. The Haryana Government has approved composite area norms for educational facilities in licenced colonies as well as for change of land use cases so that uniform norms could be followed for educational institutions in the residential colonies.

Stating this here today, an official spokesman said that the area for creche and nursery school should be 0.2 acres and for primary school, B.Ed. or M.Ed. or D.Ed. or JBT institution, it should be one acre. The area for MBA and MCA institution should be 1.25 acres.

The area for middle school should be two acres and for Pharmacy College, Hotel Management and Catering Technology and applied Arts and Crafts, it should be 2.5 acres, he said, adding that the area for setting up of high or higher secondary school with residential facility, architecture college and Polytechnic college had been fixed at five acres and for college or Engineering and Technology College, it had been fixed at ten acres.

For setting up a medical college with hospital, he said, the area should be 25 acres.

The area norms for remaining community sites would be as laid down in letter number 20028 dated November 24,1988, he added.

SCERT calls for applicants from the Department of School Education, Haryana to participate in Action Research with the newly established research cell REAP (Research and Experiments for Action and Policy) within SCERT Gurgaon, Haryana.

Qualifications: REAP is looking for motivated candidates with a minimum of two years teaching experience and at least a Master's Degree in Science, Economics or Statistics to participate in field research. Candidates will be trained in research methodologies in collaboration with the Poverty Action Lab, U.S.A and will participate in research activities undertaken by REAP.

Selection Procedure: The research work will involve overseeing policy evaluations in the field, mentoring for teachers where required and qualitative inputs from the action researchers. Two candidates from each district will be selected and plced within DIETs.

HPSPP RMSA/SSA Recruitment 2011 For Various Posts

All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is likely to conduct single test for all management courses throughout the country, from year 2013. The test will be valid for management courses including both MBA and postgraduate (PG) diploma in management.

According to the sources, AICTE, the advisory body for technical and professional courses in India has recently taken the decision to hold Common Management Admission Test (CMAT). The decision was finalized at the executive council meeting of AICTE.

While discussing about CMAT, S S Mantha, AICTE chairman, said that almost every college, state and private association have their own entrance exam these days. So, CMAT will rise as a standard test for all AICTE-approved institutes to reduce the stress and financial burden of students who apply to different institutions individually, he added.

However, he also clarified that the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) will continue to hold the CAT (Common Admission Test) for admission. The deemed universities will also conduct their separate entrance tests for courses offered. However, admission to 4,000 colleges that offer MBA and another 500 offering diploma programmes will be done on the basis of CMAT from 2013, he said.

Furthermore, Mantha said that the Council is working hard to make out the modalities of conducting the CMAT. He added that conducting so many exams, all of different difficulty levels, also raises concerns about the quality of students who enter these courses.

Department of Laws, BPS Mahila Vishwavidhyalaya Khanpur Kalan is organizing a Moot Court Competition in the month of September, 2011. The Date of competition is 1st & 2nd September 2011. Moot court is one of the most prestigious extracurricular activities of law schools. Students typically spend a semester researching and writing the memorials, as well as practicing their oral arguments.

Only one team is allowed to participate from every eligible school. Teams prepare oral and written pleadings arguing both the applicant and respondent positions of the case. Rules for the competition along with registration form are provided separately.
